My Story

Chocolate is living in a foster home. Submit an application from our website and then make an appointment to meet him. Chocolate is not eligible for foster and will be a straight adoption. Housebroken: Yes Crate trained: Working on it! Dog sociability: He lives with 3 other dogs in his foster home and has been doing well! He gains confidence from the other dogs in his home, but can be shy at first so does best with slow intros. Cat sociability: He has done well with a cat after a slow, proper intro period. Kids: He would prefer an adults-only home, as he can be nervous around new people. Everybody loves Chocolate! Choco came from Tulum Mexico to be an OTAT dog, and while he was very sick when he came up, he's healthy now and ready to find his family! Choco is a very shy boy and would do well with a confident and friendly dog sibling around to show him the world isn't such a scary place. Choco's favorite things are playing with his foster mom, giving high fives (for treats of course), and 24 hour critter patrol in the backyard with his foster brother. When Choco is tired, he will put himself right to sleep in a nice quiet dog bed corner. Choco takes a long time to warm up to new people and has some stranger danger struggles, but once he trusts you, he'll love you forever (as long as you respect his boundaries)! Chocolate's adoption fee is $300. He is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, microchipped and heartworm negative. He has recently completed heartworm treatment while in our care, and is now heartworm negative as of testing in March 2023. He had FHO surgery in Mexico prior to coming to OTAT, and completed physical therapy here in Chicago to help relieve the stiffness in his leg. His adopter should consult with their private vet for ongoing support. Chocolate received chemotherapy for a transmissible venereal tumor on his penis. He looks good with no evidence of recurrence of his cancer. **** Our adoption application stays on file for one year and can apply to any dog in our program. Once the app is submitted you will receive an email within 48-72 hours. For additional questions, email [email protected] ****
