My Story

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Cora, 4yr old, spayed female, shepherd mix, 53 pounds. Cora is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an adopter is lined up! Put simply: Cora is a doll. She's low key and more of a "rest" girl than a "go" girl. She will hop around a little bit here and there but hasn't played very much. Most of the time she just watches everyone play. She lives in a home with many (4+) other dogs but does best with slow introductions*, as she will sometimes growl through the crate when she meets someone new for the first time. She is super happy to let herself in and out the doggie door. Cora is fully house trained and enjoys her crate - she sleeps and eats in her kennel and can often be found curled up next to one of her many foster siblings napping together in there. As a rule of her foster, all dogs are fed separately from one another so no signs of food aggression or resource guarding have been noted. Cora has no issues with treats, toys or bones and will allow you to pick them up without any fuss. Mama Cora has been around older kids and lives with a 12yr old now. She tends to avoid people if she's uncomfortable and prefers quiet spaces, so we don't think she would enjoy a home with young kids. No matter the age, we recommend homes with kids who can understand and will respect animal behavior cues. We have no history with cats. Cora does well on a leash but has access to a fenced back yard so doesn't often go on walks. She is moderate energy and doesn't ask for much exercise - she likes sunning herself in a good dirt spot or curling up in the bed to rot away the weekend. She'd be great in a home or apartment because of her low maintenance and quiet personality - her foster says she's never barked in all the time she's been with her! Cora is cuddly but not overly affectionate and night time is her most enjoyed cuddle time but that may also be because her favorite spot in all the house IS the bed. :) She wants to be near you but is confident enough to not need to be "on" you, too. She would love to have a home with lots of toys to play with and the ability to lounge around all day. Quirk of notice: Cora does tend to startle easily and she does not like loud noises, people reaching over her head, or not being able to see your movements (so no jump scares during Halloween for her)! *Slow introductions typically look like several days of isolated and secluded decompression time away from all other pets followed by a couple days of passing by the other pets (and vice versa) in their kennels. From there, allowing the dogs to meet on opposite sides of a baby gate while being observed and proceeding to leashed interactions while supervised. This process may take one to two weeks, and the dogs' comfort level should dictate how quickly it proceeds. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt her?
