ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Meet Ernie, the lovable pup with a heart of gold and a zest for life that's sure to brighten any home. With an estimated weight of 30 lbs, Ernie may be small in stature, but he's overflowing with love and affection.
In the realm of canine companionship, Ernie is a social butterfly, getting along famously with other dogs that show proper manners. He knows just when to take breaks during playtime, demonstrating a keen understanding of canine etiquette. Ernie has shared a home with another dog and had no issues with a proper introduction.
While his interactions with cats may not be his strong suit, Ernie has proven himself to be a friend to older children, excelling in his role as a loyal and playful companion. He may not appreciate very young children, since he's not a fan of surprises or being handled roughly. He would gladly be a loyal couch buddy to school age children and older teens.
In terms of commands, Ernie has mastered the art of sitting, showcasing his eagerness to please and willingness to learn more alongside his new family. He is very food motivated and easy to train, quickly picking up stay and touch. He will thrive in a home where he can continue to work on his training and use his brain.
When it comes to housebreaking and crate training, Ernie settles down with ease, finding comfort and security in his crate as a safe space to call his own. However he is equally good out of the crate, and his current fosters do not crate him when they leave the house. He spends his alone time snoozing on the couch.
Ernie's list of likes is as heartwarming as it is endearing - from people and dogs to tasty treats and affection, he thrives on the love and companionship of those around him. And with a penchant for gazing out the window, Ernie finds joy in observing the world around him.
Despite his friendly nature, Ernie harbors a dislike for cats, fast movement, and unexpected noises. He especially dislikes loud cars and large trucks. Ernie is adapting nicely to a busy city environment but appreciates his quiet time. With the right environment and understanding, he's sure to flourish into the perfect furry companion.
Hailing from a rural shelter where he narrowly escaped euthanasia, Ernie's journey has brought him to Homeward Trails in search of a cozy home to live out his golden years. With his heart full of love and his tail wagging with anticipation, Ernie is ready to bring joy and happiness to a fortunate family willing to open their hearts to him. Will you be the one to give Ernie the loving home he deserves?
