My Story

Level 3 Behavior Rating: Summary: This dog will need to go to a home with experienced adopters, and we suggest that the adopter have prior experience with the challenges described and/or an understanding of the challenge and how to manage it safely in a home environment. Dogs with Level 3 determinations will need to go to homes with experienced adopters, and we strongly suggest that the adopter have prior experience with the challenges described and/or an understanding of the challenge and how to manage it safely in a home environment. In many cases, we recommend consultation with a qualified, force-free, reward-based trainer in the future home. Some of the challenges seen at Level 3 are also seen at Level 1 and Level 2, but may be seen at a greater frequency and higher intensity. What my friends at ACC say about me: I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I am finding the shelter a bit overwhelming. Outside one-on-one I am a great big cuddle bug. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. Please check here for updated adoption hours. A staff member writes: Keyla is a playful and social dog looking for her forever home here at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. She is ALL about treats, she is not picky at all about her treats, and she will ask for more if she wants. She enjoys playing fetch and running around to get some energy out. She has shown some anxiety here at the care center and will do best in a home that can help her be less anxious. When meeting new people, she can take a little bit to warm up but with the help of some treats she will be your best friend in no time. She enjoys watching TV with her people and cuddling up on the couch. Keyla will do best in a home without any other pets so that she can be the shining star in your eyes. Keyla will need someone who can help her with her on leash reactivity and she currently has some handling sensitivity that could be because of her skin allergies.
