Nala is a 10-month-old Shepherd mix currently being held at the Kern County Animal Services - Bakersfield Shelter. She has been at the shelter since January 22, 2024, and is ready for her new home.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Nala. She is so sweet and absolutely craves love and attention. She is aware of boundaries and doesn’t jump all over you. She is a breeze on the leash! She is dog friendly and current kenneled with 3 other dogs.

Companion Animal Protection Services (CAPS), a national nonprofit based in Thousand Oaks, CA., is partnering with Kern County Animal Services in Bakersfield to find homes for high risk dogs, The shelter has more than 300 dogs and puppies in two metal warehouses with no outdoor runs. Dogs over five-months-old are at high risk for euthanasia because of lack of space and too many abandoned dogs in the community.

Please contact CAPS if you are interested in adopting, rescuing or fostering, and we will make sure the shelter contacts you. They do not answer phones or respond often to voice messages due to understaffing. Foster homes must be in Kern County. The dogs are in Bakersfield, not Thousand Oaks.
