WE ARE LOOKING FOR A FOSTER, FOSTER TO ADOPT OR ADOPTER ASAP! PLEASE complete our foster or adoption form to get started! Already have an app on file? Email [email protected]

Woof everyone! I'm Sox, or shall we say “fox?” Yeah, I get that a lot. In addition to my awesomeness, I’m also pretty exotic lookin. Regal, right? I’m 45lbs and will probably not get significantly bigger. Per DNA testing, I am a cattle dog (50%) x malinois x dutch shepherd mix!

My life started with a bit of an adventure – I was rescued alongside a lovely lady shepherd and a bunch of other playful pups who I came to love as my own brothers and sisters.

Fast forward to now – I'm the definition of playfulness and energy. Fetch, tug-of-war, you name it – I'm always up for a good time. After a month in foster, I finally started to feel more comfortable around my foster doggy siblings and I am totally one of the squad now!

Thanks to my super amazing foster parents, I’ve made great strides with crate training and encountering other dogs and people on walks. I’m starting to realize how great walks around the neighborhood are!

I don’t mean to brag, but I was potty trained in just a few weeks! The one thing I’m a little behind on is my love for the car. My foster is optimistic that I may get more comfortable as I get older with the help of training and positive distractions.

More from Sox’s foster:

- Playful with passive females once he knows them

- Usually neutral towards other dogs on walks and when meeting them for the first time

- Barked at his first cat once and then sniffed and left alone for the most part (he was on leash but wasn’t obsessive or pulling towards the cat)

- Is loving walks and doesn’t find the outside so scary anymore!

- Can be timid in crowds, but listens and takes direction with treats

- Is getting friendly with new people, alert barking when someone comes into the house but shows interest, takes treats, and allows pets on first meeting

- Nervous on car rides, but able to be distracted with a chew and treats and can now sit in a non-moving car which exhibiting anxiety

$250 adoption donation includes age-appropriate shots, microchip with free lifetime registry, deworming, flea preventative, and spay/neuter agreement addendum

Ideal home will:

Have the time to commit to all things puppy! Please note puppies do not do well left alone long hours. Long work schedule where the puppy would be left alone for 7+ hours can be difficult on most puppies and young dogs.

Solid plans for puppy socialization, positive exposure and continued training + relationship building -- commitment not just to puppyhood but to a lifetime of love, care, companionship and vetting. HFP advocates for Positive Reinforcement only for young puppies and training that focuses less on "obedience" and more on confidence building, relationship building and consent training.

Preference to homes w/ friendly & well-trained dog role models (preference, NOT required)

Interested in adopting?
1. Please complete our online form at heartsforpawsrescue.com/adoption-application
2. We will respond in 1-3 days for a call!
3. If it sounds like a potential match for you and the dog of interest, we will promptly set up a meet and greet at the foster home

Please note we are a foster-based rescue meaning our dogs are in individual foster homes throughout sac and the bay. For this reason we may only be able to schedule meets for one dog at a time (or litter). The average timeline between app submission and a meet and greet is 3-5 days. Please only submit an application for a specific dog if you are ready to adopt that animal within a week's time.
